Several of the places that we looked at on Friday and Saturday were just not big enough to fit our stuff in - even after we pared it down before we moved. The place we chose has tiny bedrooms, but the living room is a good size. It's definitely big enough to fit our TV and couches! We figure that we will spend most of our time in the living room anyhow, so we can live with the tiny bedrooms for the time being. You can see from the pictures that it has some good perks; like hardwood floors, a remodeled kitchen, and a lemon tree in the back patio! It is a three story Victorian. The owner lives on the top floor, her nephew, his wife, and two children live on the middle floor and we will be occupying the ground floor. It is very typical in SF that the old Victorians are divided up for rentals.
We'll sign a lease this week, starting on April 15th, and we will move in the weekend of April 18th.
On Saturday we drove down to San Jose to our corporate apartment. It's a nice one bed one bath place, and it's about 15 minutes away from Google. Saturday night we went to Safeway to stock up on a few things. We were surprised to see that grocery stores sell liquor out in California - and when it's on sale, it's much cheaper than it is in Virginia - it's one of the only things we've seen so far which can be less expensive out here.
Sunday was a day for us both to rest up. We were exhausted both physically and emotionally after our apartment search. We found (another) good Mexican restaurant on yelp for dinner, Baja Cactus.
Monday was my first day at Google. It's even cooler than I expected. The whole environment reminds me a lot of being in college, where intellectual curiosity was normal and encouraged. The past two days have been intense, but incredible.
Allison has been busy being a bum for the past two days. Ironically, she actually got sick while taking sick time. However, she is on the mend. She heads back to VA on Saturday for two weeks of teaching before we move into our new place!

Nothing like intellectual curiosity AND cheap liquor!
Hope your guest bedroom will be unpacked by June.
